PlusNet Newsletter Issue 19

Welcome to the latest edition of Plus, the PlusNet newsletter.

It looks as though Summer may finally have arrived, even Sheffield has had some glorious weather recently. With no team from the home nations taking part in Euro 2008 it’s going to be interesting to see what people are going to be doing instead of watching all that football. Are we going to see another increase in streaming as people tune into the new series of Big Brother online?

1. Make the most of your connection

With time sensitive applications like the BBC iPlayer becoming more widely used, there's more coverage than ever about broadband speeds.

Read our article discussing the latest press coverage on the BBC.

We know how important it is for you to get the fastest speeds that your line can support and there are some really simple steps that you can take to make sure you’re getting the most from your connection.

You should have a microfilter on each telephone point that is used in your premises, not just the one that your modem or router is connected to. You should connect your modem/router through a filter directly to the BT master socket. If you are connecting through an extension cable you can increase interference which can cause lower speeds.

For more detailed information check out our Help and Support pages.

You can test your speeds online now at My Broadband Speed

2. Win an iPod Touch

Spread the word about PlusNet to your friends and family and you could be the lucky winner of an 8GB iPod Touch. If someone you recommend signs up to PlusNet broadband before the 23rd of June then you’ll automatically be entered into a draw to win the iPod.

The more people that sign up on your recommendation the more chances you have of winning. We’ll also give you a bonus entry if they take PlusNet Home Phone too.

3. Usage warning emails

Following customer feedback we have recently introduced warning emails for customers who are approaching their usage limits on our Broadband Your Way products.

The emails will be triggered when you reach 80% of your included usage allowance and should result in fewer people exceeding their usage without realising and seeing slower speeds or paying for additional usage.

Click here for the original announcement.

You can keep track of your usage throughout the month using the View My Usage tool in the Member Centre.

4. Football vs. The Apprentice

When Manchester United played Chelsea in the Champions League final last month over 14.6 million people in the UK tuned in – giving ITV the most watched television moment of the year.

This had 2 knock on effects on our network. We saw a very quiet Wednesday evening in terms of internet use, with so many people preoccupied with the penalty shootout drama.

The following evening we saw a massive increase in streaming traffic. Between 8-11pm we saw our three busiest hours of streaming ever. As The Apprentice was shown at the same time as the football on Wednesday it's a safe bet that people were catching up on Sir Alan and the gang online using the BBC iPlayer

5. Customer Satisfaction continues to rise

The most recent results of our Customer Satisfaction survey have revealed that the recent upward trend is continuing.

Last month we reported that 72.5% of respondents were either 'very' or 'extremely' satisfied, and it brings me great pleasure to tell you that the latest review shows that this has risen to 74.7%.

The number of people dissatisfied with the service rose from 5.9% last month to 8.4%. We’re disappointed with the result and we’re working hard to reduce this number and continue the progress that’s been made over the past few months

You can read more about the survey results on this review on the Community site.
