Plusnet webspace FAQs
Our home broadband packages don't come with webspace. But you'll have webspace if you've got business broadband, or if you moved from an older home broadband package. You can check by going to Website Settings, then Standard Webspace. Or have a look at our broadband product archive.
Your webspace allowance is the amount of data you can store on our servers.
Your daily transfer allowance is how much data can be transferred to and from your webspace in 24 hours.
Here's what you get.

If you've got standard webspace
Standard webspace comes with our business broadband packages.
To view your website:
- Open your web browser
- Go to http://www.username.plus.com, http://www.username.force9.co.uk, or http://www.username.free-online.co.uk replacing username with your own one
You'll need to upload your files to the /htdocs directory. You won't be able to use PHP or other scripting languages on standard webspace.
If you've got Plusnet Hosting (CGI)
Some of our older packages still give you access to 'CGI webspace'. CGI webspace means you can use PHP and other scripting languages, but it isn't available to new customers anymore.
To get to the Plusnet Hosting Control Panel, go to https://hosting.plus.net or:
- Go to My Account and open your Website Settings
- Click 'Plusnet Hosting'
To view your website:
- Open your web browser
- Go to http://ccgi.username.plus.com, http://ccgi.username.force9.co.uk or http://ccgi.username.free-online.co.uk replacing username with your own one
If you've got standard webspace
These are the FTP settings you need.

If you've got a free account, you'll need to be connected to the Plusnet network to access the Standard Webspace FTP servers.
If you've got Plusnet Hosting (CGI)

Yes you can. Just use https://homepages.plus.net/username/ when you're looking at your site.

Webstats (also called web analytics) let you find out useful information about your website, like how many people are visiting your site, what they're looking at and what they're clicking on. They record all the activity on your site, including on individual domains.
Webstats are available on all accounts that have Standard Webspace.
To use webstats:
- Go to Manage Account, then Website Settings
- Click Standard Webspace
- Click activate (it might take 24 hours to start keeping track of things)
- When you've done that, you'll see a list of all the domains you host on your webspace. Webstats keep track of information for every domain separately
- Click on a domain name to see your stats (you might be asked for your account username and password again)
Webstats give you a good overall picture of who's doing what on your site.
Summary page
An overview of the last 12 months, with the statistics for each month in graphs. These are also shown in a table. Click on a month for more detailed information.
Monthly Statistics
More information about who uses your site.
Hits
Any files people have requested on your site, whether it's a web page, image or anything else you've uploaded.
Files
The number of files sent to each person's browser.
Pages
Also known as page impressions. This shows how many webpages visitors looked at. This means an html file with an html or htm extension.
Visits
How many separate people have been on your site. If someone leaves your website, then returns later without going offline in between, it could still count as just one visit.
Sites
Shows you where visitors come from. This means you can tell whether lots of different visits have come from one person, or a different person each time.
KBytes
The traffic throughput of your whole website, measured in kilobytes (1024 bytes).
Entry Pages
The first page someone lands on when they come to your site.
Exit Pages
The last page someone was on before they left your site.
Response Codes
These codes are generated by your web server. They let you know whether each request made on your site worked or not e.g. you'll know if a page isn't working because you'll be able to tell if '404 Error' messages are showing.
URLs
The addresses that people are requesting from your website e.g. a folder (/holiday/pictures/) or a specific file (/holiday/pictures/sunset1.jpg).
Referrers
Where a visit to your website originated from (e.g. by clicking on a search engine result or following a link included on someone else's website).
User Agents
The browser someone was using when they visited your site.
Search Strings
These examine the patterns of referrer sites, usually search engines.
Countries
The country someone was in when they were on your site. It does this by looking at the domain the visitor is using. This can be unreliable, though, because so many domains (like .com) are international.
If you go over your daily allowance we might need to temporarily take your website offline. We'll let you know by email if that's happened.
