    Full Fibre without a phone service FAQs

    Full fibre is sometimes called FTTP (fibre to the premises). Using next generation technology, full fibre connects straight to your home so you don’t need a phone line. The 'full' bit in full fibre means your connection uses 100% fibre optic cables direct to your door. So you get the UK’s most reliable broadband with ultrafast speeds up to 900Mb.

    It’s so new it’s not available everywhere just yet, but the great news is you’re one of our lucky customers who can upgrade to full fibre right now!

    We'll arrange an Openreach engineer to visit your home to set up your connection.

    We'll need to install two Full Fibre boxes, one inside and the other outside your home. The small box we'll fit in your home is an Openreach box called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). This box needs to be close to your router and they'll both need to be near a plug socket.

    To connect the Full Fibre boxes and cables we'll need to drill through your wall from the outside of your property. Someone over the age of 18 will need to be at home on the day we activate your service.

    It usually takes a couple of hours to get you set up and the engineer will finish up by testing your connection using one of your preferred devices. That's it. You'll be good to go and can start enjoying your game-changing, reliable, ultrafast Full Fibre.

    Plusnet Full Fibre is a broadband only package. Using new technology, there’s no phone line needed to set up your connection. This means we’ll disconnect your phone line and:

    • You’ll lose your home phone number and your home phone service won’t work.
    • You won’t be able to make or receive calls, including to emergency services.
    • Personal alarms and any other services connected to your home phone will no longer work.

    Phone lines will be switched off in the future as part of the Openreach national network upgrades. If you’d like to chat about digital phone services which may be available to you, call us on 0330 1239 123.

    The technology that powers landline telephones in the UK will be phased out by Openreach from 2023 and will be completely switched off in 2027. With the increased use of mobile phone devices and internet video calling, traditional phone line usage is in decline.

    At the same time, Openreach are investing in new broadband systems and connections using the latest fibre optic technology, which doesn’t need an old copper-wire landline network.

    Changes to phone line and broadband technology will affect all broadband providers, not just Plusnet.

    With Full Fibre, you don’t need a phone line to set up your connection, so your broadband’s ready for the future. And you won’t need to pay for a landline phone service you don’t use.

    If we need to install a new Full Fibre connection, you’ll need an engineer to visit your premises to get your service set up and activated. This usually takes 3-10 working days. We’ll take care of everything and always aim to get you set up as quickly as we can

    Sometimes an Openreach engineer may need to run a few checks or survey your property to see if there’s any additional work required to get your connection set up.

    We’ll let you know if they need to do any checks as part of your order. Once these are finished we’ll be in touch to confirm your installation date.

    Yes. Full Fibre is a broadband only package, so it doesn’t include a working phone line.

    This means services connected to your phone line such as personal alarms, healthcare alarms and emergency pendants will stop working.

    Fibre is a broadband only package. It uses part fibre technology, but it’s set up without a phone line service. Fibre optic cables run to your street cabinet, then copper cables are connected to your home.

    With one straightforward package, you get the best available speeds at our best possible price. Giving you great speeds for a great price.

    You don’t need an engineer to set up your connection. Your router plugs into your master socket.

    This is Fibre broadband without a landline. Using new technology, there's no phone line needed to set up your connection. This means we'll disconnect your phone line service and:

    Fibre is a broadband only package. It uses part fibre technology, but it’s set up without a phone line service. Fibre optic cables run to your street cabinet, then copper cables are connected to your home.

    With one straightforward package, you get the best available speeds at our best possible price. Giving you great speeds for a great price.

    You don’t need an engineer to set up your connection. Your router plugs into your master socket.

    This is Fibre broadband without a landline. Using new technology, there's no phone line needed to set up your connection. This means we'll disconnect your phone line service and:

    • You'll lose your home phone number and your home phone service won't work.
    • You won't be able to make or receive calls, including to emergency services.
    • Personal alarms and any other services connected to your home phone will no longer work.

    Fibre is a broadband only package. It uses a new connection, so it's set up without a phone line service.

    It's a simple package that does what's needed to keep you connected. It gets even better. With one straightforward package, you get your best available speeds at one straightforward price.

    Full Fibre is also broadband only, so doesn't need or provide a phone line service. This package uses the latest fibre technology which runs direct to your home.

    Full Fibre is so new it's not available everywhere just yet. The good news is, when you sign up to a Fibre package you can easily upgrade to Full Fibre when it becomes available in your area.

    As broadband technology is advancing at a great pace, all areas of the UK will be upgraded to new types of fibre connections. Openreach decide which regions get upgraded and when. Depending where in the country you live, you'll have different types of fibre broadband technologies and connections available to you.

    As part of the latest updates, we now have our new Fibre package available in your area. This package doesn't need a phone line to set up your connection. What's best about Fibre is that you'll get your best available speed at one straightforward price.

    The technology that powers landline telephones in the UK will be phased out by Openreach from 2023 and will be completely switched off in 2027. With the increased use of mobile phone devices and internet video calling, traditional phone line usage is in decline.

    At the same time, Openreach are investing in new broadband systems and connections using the latest fibre optic technology, which doesn’t need an old copper-wire landline network.

    Changes to phone line and broadband technology will affect all broadband providers, not just Plusnet.

    With our Fibre package, the good news is that you don’t need a phone line, so you’ll be set up for the future. And you’ll no longer have to pay for a landline phone service you don’t use.

    Yes. Fibre is a broadband only package, so it doesn’t include a working phone line.

    This means services connected to your phone line such as personal alarms, healthcare alarms and emergency pendants will stop working.

    On 31 March each year the monthly plan price will increase by £3 for Broadband and out of bundle charges will increase 5%. See About annual price changes for details. Please note the cost of other services you take from us may increase or decrease while you are a Plusnet customer.

    Broadband without a landline
    • Your home phone will be disconnected and will no longer work.
    • You will lose your home phone number and will not be able to get it back. You'll have to get a brand new number if you decide you need a home phone in the future.
    • You won't be able to make or receive calls, including to emergency services.
    • Healthcare alarms, medical pendants, security systems and any other services which are connected to your home phone will no longer work.

    • Broadband packages are subject to 24 month contract and availability.
    • Payment by direct debit.
    • Your pre contract information and contract summary sets out your speed estimates, total monthly costs, total upfront costs and the amount you will pay once your minimum term ends. This is available at checkout.

    1.1 Fibre and Full Fibre packages
    • Subject to availability, geographic location, computer specifications and a line check. The exchange list and dates are subject to change.
    • Prices and terms subject to change during the contract term.
    • Openreach may have to carry out a survey before they can connect your home to Full Fibre. If they do, they may need access to your property, but we’ll contact you first to arrange a suitable time.
    • If additional work is required, this may take longer than the initial set up time provided and there could be additional costs, we’ll contact you to confirm what additional work is needed and how long this will take, usually within four weeks from the date you placed your order.
    • If you do not want to proceed with your upgrade based on this, you’ll be able to cancel your order without being charged.

    4.1 SIM Plans

    30 day minimum term. Subject to terms and credit check. Monthly charges assume online billing. You will not get 5G speeds using a 4G phone. A daily charge applies to use allowances in the EU/EEA unless you have an add-on or Inclusive Extra that includes EU Roaming.     4.3 Stay Connected Data

    If you have a capped data allowance (i.e. not an unlimited data plan) once you have used up your monthly data allowance your speed will be capped at 0.5Mbps. You will regain access to our fastest speeds upon (1) renewal of your monthly plan allowance, (2) by buying one of our data add-ons, or (3) If you are gifted data by someone else in your family account. Once the data add-on or gifted data runs out, you will return to the capped speed until your monthly plan allowance has renewed. Not available with No Frills plans.

    4.4 Data Gifting

    Account holder only can gift between pay monthly plans on the same account in increments of 500MB. Unlimited data plans can gift up to 100GB. Data usage on an unlimited data plan will be deducted from giftable allowance. No gifting to/from Smart Watches, 4G Home, 5G Home or 30-day 4G WiFi or 5G WiFi plans. Data not used in a month does not roll over, allowances are set back to zero at the start of each month. If you are outside your price plans standard countries when your monthly allowances refresh on your bill date the main account holder will not be able to gift data until you return to the UK/EU. Data can only be used in accordance with the plan terms applicable to the receiving line.

    Software Support for Plusnet's Broadband Devices

    Once your broadband and line rental are activated you will be issued claim information via email. Follow the instructions in this email to be issued with your Plusnet Reward Card. You must submit your claim within two months of the email being issued. The card must be activated within three months of it being issued.
