How’s Full Fibre different from fibre broadband?

    24 month contracts

    Super for smart homes

    Your Full Fibre questions answered

Full Fibre is the next generation ultrafast broadband, which connects straight to your home. It combines cutting-edge fibre-optic technology to deliver 900Mb download speeds and even greater upload speeds in comparison to traditional broadband. It’s so new it’s not available everywhere just yet. Check if you can get Full Fibre.

If you don’t have a Full Fibre connection we’ll arrange an Openreach engineer to visit your home to get one set up.

We’ll need to install two Full Fibre boxes, one inside and the other outside your home. The small box we’ll fit in your home is an Openreach box called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). This box needs to be close to your router and they’ll both need to be near a plug socket.

To connect the Full Fibre boxes and cables we’ll need to drill through your wall from the outside of your property. Someone over the age of 18 will need to be at home on the day we activate your service.

It usually takes a couple of hours to get you set up and the engineer will finish up by testing your connection using one of your preferred devices. That’s it. You’ll be good to go and can start enjoying your game-changing, reliable, ultrafast Full Fibre.

This is what your Full Fibre install will look like video

Full Fibre uses the latest technology, so you might think it could be expensive. Not here at Plusnet. We’ll always offer no-nonsense great value deals on all our 18 and 24 month Full Fibre contracts Think of it as Full Fibre straight to your home at straight talking prices.

If you’re an existing Plusnet broadband customer we’ve always got great offers for you. Just Sign in to My Account to check your renewal and upgrade deals.
If Full Fibre’s not reached your area, don’t worry you can register your interest and we’ll be in touch as soon as we’re on your street

If you’re looking to switch to Plusnet you can see if Full Fibre deals are available in your area, just enter your details into our broadband postcode checker on our homepage.
If Full Fibre’s not reached you just yet we’ll show you which fantastic deals and packages you can get. When it’s available we’ll let you know and you can upgrade at any time.

If you’ve already got a Full Fibre connection, we can activate your service remotely. We can usually get you set up in 3 working days and we’ll confirm this once you’ve signed up.

If we need to install a new Full Fibre connection, you’ll need an engineer to visit your premises to get your service set up and activated. This usually takes 3-10 working days. We’ll take care of everything and always aim to get you set up as quickly as we can.

If you’re with Virgin or a cable provider you’ll need to let them know you’re switching to us.

Sometimes an Openreach engineer may need to run a few checks or survey your property to see if there’s any additional work required to get your connection set up.

We’ll let you know if they need to do any checks as part of your order. Once these are finished we’ll be in touch to confirm your installation date.

FTTP stands for Fibre to The Premises. It’s also called Full Fibre broadband. It uses fibre cables all the way into your home. There’s no phone line needed to set up a Ful Fibre connection. This means it can deliver ultrafast broadband speeds up to 900Mb and makes it the UK’s most reliable broadband technology too.

FTTP isn’t available everywhere yet, but it’s being installed up and down the UK. Plusnet FTTP is called Full Fibre.

FTTC stands for Fibre to The Cabinet. Also known as fibre broadband or part fibre. It uses fibre cables to the cabinet on your street, then copper cables to your home. FTTC broadband isn’t as fast as FTTP, but you can still get superfast speeds up to 66Mb.

Our Full Fibre broadband packages are FTTP, and our Fibre broadband packages are FTTC.

See what Plusnet broadband packages you can get.

With our Full Fibre packages you can get incredible, ultrafast, speeds up to 900Mb++.

Plusnet Full Fibre is a broadband only package, so you don't need a phone line. This means you can save on line rental.

What this means if you're a Plusnet customer

When you upgrade your package to Full Fibre you'll need to confirm that you're happy to lose your landline. We'll then take care of everything and disconnect your home phone as part of your Full Fibre installation.

It's important to know that losing your landline will mean any medical services or alarms connected to your phone will also stop working. This includes medical pendants and fall alarms.
We'd advise speaking to your supplier or manufacturer about these before choosing a Full Fibre package.

Want to keep your landline? No problem, you can choose a great renewal or upgrade deal on our broadband and faster fibre packages which use a phone line.

Sign in to see your current deals.

What this means for new customers

When you sign up you'll just need to let us know what you want to do with your phone line:

If you don't want to keep it we'll take care of everything and disconnect your phone when you switch to us. This will means you'll lose your landline number and any medical services or personal alarms connected to your phone will also stop working. We'd advise speaking to your supplier or manufacturer about these before choosing a Full Fibre package.

If you want to keep your home phone line you'll need to arrange this with your current landline provider. Your phone service will be completely separate from your Plusnet Full Fibre package.

All our Full Fibre packages are unlimited. This means you can use the internet as much as you like without any limits to how much data you download or upload each month. That’ll do.

The technology that powers landline telephones in the UK will be phased out by Openreach from 2023 and completely switched off in 2027. With the increased use of mobile phone devices and internet video calling, traditional phone line usage is in decline.

At the same time, Openreach are investing in new broadband systems and connections using the latest fibre optic technology, which doesn’t need an old copper-wire landline network.

Changes to phone line and broadband technology will affect all broadband providers, not just Plusnet.

With our Fibre package, the good news is that you don’t need a phone line, so you’ll be set up for the future. And you’ll no longer have to pay for a landline phone service.

** Full Fibre 900, up to 25 times faster bandwidth when compared to our standard Unlimited Fibre
