Our Fibre and Full Fibre packages are broadband only, so they don’t need a traditional landline

Full Fibre broadband, also known as FTTP (Fibre to The Premises), uses a game-changing connection running fibre cables straight to your home, so you don’t need a phone line. It’s the UK’s most reliable broadband technology, and with our packages, you can get incredible, ultrafast speeds up to 900Mb.

Fibre broadband is also called FTTC (Fibre to The Cabinet). It’s also described as part fibre as it uses a combination of fibre and copper cables to get you connected. Fibre cables carry signals to your street cabinet, then copper cables are used to connect to your home through your master socket. Fibre broadband isn’t as fast as Full Fibre, but you can still get average superfast speeds up to 66Mb.

    Broadband speeds

Average speeds are based on the speed available to at least 50% of customers at peak times (8-10pm). Your actual speed will depend on your location and phone line (for standard broadband and fibre products) and your home wiring, WiFi connection and time of day (for all products). We'll provide you with a speed estimate when you check the availability of our products. Find out why speeds vary.

Plusnet Full Fibre is a broadband only package, so you don’t need a phone line. This means you can save on line rental.

When you sign up you’ll just need to let us know what you want to do with your phone line. If you don’t want to keep it when we’ll take care of everything and disconnect your phone when you switch to us. This will mean you’ll lose your landline number and any services or alarms connected to your phone will also stop working. You may need to speak to your service provider about these.

If you want to keep your home phone line you’ll need to arrange this with your current landline provider. Your phone service will be completely separate from your Plusnet Full Fibre package.

If you've already got a Full Fibre connection, then we can activate your service remotely. Which means we can usually get you set up in 3 working days and we'll confirm this once you've signed up.

If we need to install a new Full Fibre connection, you'll need an engineer to visit your premises to get your service set up and activated. This will usually take 3-10 working days. We'll take care of everything and always aim to get you set up as quickly as we can.

If you’re switching from a cable provider like Virgin or another provider not using the Openreach network, you’ll need to let them know you’re switching to us

Sometimes an Openreach engineer may need to run a few checks or survey your property to see if there's any additional work required to get your connection set up.

We'll let you know if they need to do any checks as part of your order. Once these are finished we'll be in touch to confirm your installation date.

As Full Fibre uses the latest broadband technology the installation process is a little different than standard broadband.

For starters, you don't need a phone line to get connected. We run fibre cables from the BT Exchange straight to your home. This game-changing connection means you get ultrafast reliable speeds.

If you've already got a Full Fibre connection then we can get you activated remotely and you won't need an engineer. We'll get in touch to confirm the date your service will go live. You don't need to be at home for this.

If you need an engineer visit

If you don't have a Full Fibre connection then we'll need to arrange an Openreach engineer to visit your home or business premises to get one set up.

You can book an appointment as part of your order.

Here's a few important things you need to know about the installation and what to expect on the day.

    Installing Full Fibre boxes

We'll fit one box inside and the other outside your home or business. The small box we'll fit inside your premises is an Openreach box called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). This box needs to be close to your router and they'll both need to be near a plug socket.

    Drilling

We'll drill through your wall from the outside of your property so we can connect the Full Fibre boxes and cables.

    Rented property

You'll need to get the go-ahead from your landlord or property owner for us to drill.

    External work

Sometimes we may need outdoor access to your property if we need to do some external work. You don't need to be home or at your premises for this.

    Attendance

On the day of your appointment someone over the age of 18 will need to be at home or onsite and they'll need to let the engineer know where to install your connection.

    Obstructions

If there's any building work or scaffolding that could get in the way, please get in touch before your engineer appointment.

    Router

If you've ordered a router we'll send this out by 1st class post, and it will arrive before your installation date. It's small enough to fit through your letter box.

If you're upgrading your Plusnet package, or need any further help with your router see our router set up guides for Full Fibre.

If you're using your own router, please make sure it's compatible with our Full Fibre service.

    Getting you online

Full Fibre installations usually take a couple of hours. Once your connection's all set up you can plug in your router to the Openreach box (ONT). Our engineer will finish up by testing your connection using one of your preferred devices.

That's it. You'll be good to go and can start enjoying your game-changing, ultrafast, reliable Full Fibre.

Take a look at our video which explains in 3 minutes what happens on the day of your installation.

This is what your Full Fibre Install will look like transcript (43kb .pdf)

    Survey at your property

Sometimes an Openreach engineer may need to run a few checks or survey your property to see if there's any additional work required to get your connection set up.

We'll let you know if they need to do any checks as part of your order.

They may need access to your property. If they do we'll contact you to arrange a suitable time. Once they've completed these checks we'll be in touch to confirm your installation date.

If there's any delays, we'll always keep you informed and aim to get you set up as quickly as we can.

If you’ve got Full Fibre your router will be plugged into an Openreach Optical Network Terminal (ONT) not a phone socket. The ONT is the small box our engineer installed inside your home when we set up your service.

This is an example of an ONT:
